The COM-2 Communications Card plugs into the ITC-2001 Intelligent Transmission Cabinet Motherboard, DAB-7 Distributed Addressable Motherboard or CAM-2700 Central Audio Motherboard. When installed in the ITC-2001 Motherboard or the DAB-7 Motherboard, the COM-2 communicates with all installed option cards. The COM-2 broadcast status changes (Alarms & Troubles) from any option card onto the network so other nodes can act upon the information if required. The COM-2 uses Echelon® LonTalk® Communications to communicate to other nodes in the system.

The COM-2 uses Echelon® LonTalk® Communications to communicate to other nodes in the system. The COM-2 contains the database configuration for the Intelligent Transmission Cabinet along with its distributed Input/Output tables. When the COM-2 receives an alarm message from another node or an option card, it searches its distributed database for any outputs required to turn on. The COM-2 then sends commands to option cards to turn on their outputs. This is done independent of the Fire Command Center (FCC), which allows this node to be a truly distributed intelligent node.
